handspun #4 reprise
just finished plying the second batch of refreshers cheviot. at first glance it seems a lot finer and more even. which isn't exactly great news for the ears-down section of madam's hat...
this lot is 2 skeins (broke again) 33 + 55yds, so exactly double the length (which is better news for the ears-down section, should be enough to make it full length, if a little thin in places). the first batch i plied so that it appeared balanced as i spun, but it seemed loose afterwards. i read that the singles loose their twist after sitting around for more than an hour or so, so this time i put extra spin into the ply, so it looked overspun on the spindle (but about how i remember the singles plying back when they were freshly spun). but when i soaked it this time it didn't do the scary frizzing up thing, so i'm hoping that i might have it right this time.
edit: they definitely look better. both skeins have a very slight (1/4 turn) S twist so i guess they're slightly overplied. i also forgot how nicely they puff up after a wash, they don't look different enough to the first skein to cause any problems.
